Hanukkah's almost here!!!!! I'm so excited, I can't wait! While browsing through Pinterest (which I do a lot) I found this picture of this BEAUTIFUL giftbox menorah center piece and I just had to recreate it! So here's my version. Enjoy♡.
The materials I used were:
- 3 Large hanging file holders...that's weird I know, but I had some old ones that were taking up space so hey. You could also use empty cereal boxes or cardboard boxes
- Tape
- Mod Podge (the hard coat)
- A box cutter or X-Acto Knife
- Ruler
- Pen or pencil
- Tea light candles
- Tea light candle holders - perferably the small round ones, I got mine from my local dollar store
- Wrapping paper
- Ribbon
Step 1: If you're using the hanging files like I did, go ahead and cut off the edges (the part you would use to hang the file.)
Step 2: Draw 12 12 inches long by 3 inches wide strips and draw a vertical line width wise every 3 inches (you should have a total of 4 boxes per strip).
Step 3: Cut out the strips
Step 4: Using 8 of the 12 strips, fold each strip 4 times using the 3 inch lines you drew as a reference ( those lines should also make it easier to fold).
Step 5: Tape the 2 ends together to form a box (you should have 8 of them).
Step 6: Cut the 4 squares out of the other 4 strips (this should give you a total of 16 individual 3 inch by 3 inch squares).
Step 7: Take 2 of those little squares and tape one to the top and bottom of the boxes you created in step 5.
Step 8: To create the middle box for the eternal light draw a strip 3 inches wide by 13.5 inches long. You're going to have four squares, two 3 inch long squares and two 3.75 inch long squares and you want to alternate them, so you will have a 3 inch square then a 3.75 inch square then a 3 inch square then a 3.75 inch square. Cut this strip out and tape the ends together like you did the other 8 and you should have a rectangular box. To cover the open sides of the box cut out 2 more 3.75 by 3 inches squares and tape them on like you did for the other 8 squares. The picture below shows the order the square sizes should be in.
Step 9: Apply Mod Podge to all 6 sides of the 9 boxes (be sure to do this in 2 steps so that the box has a dry side to sit on while the other sides of the box is drying). The purpose of this step is the make the boxes sturdy enough to hold the weight of the candles.
Step 10: Wrap your boxes with your wrapping paper and ribbon just like you would a regular present, arrange them in the shape of a menorah (4 little boxes on one side, the teller one in the middle, and the other 4 on the other side), add your candles and your done!
Now you have a beautiful and elegant Menorah to display in your home and no wax residue to clean up!
